Why TikTok sleuths descended on Nicola Bulley’s village – BBC News

Police have confirmed a body found in Lancashire, England is that of missing woman Nicola Bulley.

A major search operation was mounted after the 45-year-old mother-of-two went missing during a riverside dog walk on 27 January.

Her disappearance has captivated amateur social media sleuths, with some people going as far as trying to climb fences and inspect buildings in the area.

Bulley’s family said in a statement that the treatment online by members of the public and parts of the media has been "absolutely appalling", while once again asking for their privacy to be respected.
