Why is it harder to diagnose disorders on non-white skin? – BBC News


Kanayo Dike-Oduah nearly died from a rare skin disorder which she says could have been avoided if medical professionals were better trained to diagnose skin conditions on non-white people.

And she’s not alone – medical student Malone Mukwende wrote a guide to help other medical professionals diagnose clinical signs on black and brown skin after finding people were struggling.

The General Medical Council – in charge of training in the UK- says it wants to be a driving change "in support of black and minority ethnic students, trainees, doctors and patients in the UK".
