Why has Russia targeted the media in the Ukraine conflict? – BBC News

Russia’s war, as it invades Ukraine, is accompanied by an information battle which has put different pressures on media reporting.

Some broadcasts in Ukraine were taken off air after a fatal Russian missile attack on Kyiv’s TV tower, which left five dead.

Meanwhile in Russia, TV stations are required by the media watchdog to only use information from official Russian sources when reporting the invasion

Some independent Russian media stations, such as TV channel Dozhd and popular liberal radio station Ekho Moskvy have been taken off air.

The BBC’s Ros Atkins looks at the role of the media through the experiences of seven people.
