Weekend of violent UK protests leads to emergency Downing Street meeting | BBC News

Prime Minister Keir Starmer has held an emergency meeting with ministers and police officials following a weekend of "violence" in the UK.

Protests and unrest in cities and towns across England and Northern Ireland broke out following the deaths of three young girls in Southport last Monday.

Earlier, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said she supports peaceful protesters who want to raise their views – but says that was a "world away" from the kind of "violence and thuggery" seen at the weekend.
