US denies policy of “regime change” in Russia after widespread criticism – BBC News


The US administration has been forced to explain that it is not seeking regime change in Russia.

It came after President Joe Biden declared that the Russian president Vladimir Putin “cannot remain in power”. He also called his Russian counterpart a “butcher”.

Mr Biden’s comments in Poland, over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, had appeared to be a sharp escalation of the US stance towards Moscow.
