Ukraine’s President Zelensky has told the BBC that if Donald Trump becomes the next US President, dealing with the new team in the White House would be “hard work, but we are not afraid of hard work”.
In an exclusive interview, Mr Zelensky said that “nobody in the world” could push Ukraine into an unjust peace deal with Russia that meant the permanent loss of Ukrainian territory.
Mr Trump has previously suggested that he could end the war between Russia and Ukraine in 24 hours. Mr Zelensky said that the “simple way” to do that would be to push Ukraine to "pay the price" of a peace deal by giving away land to Russia, but he said his country would never accept that.
Mr Zelensky was speaking at Blenheim Palace in the UK where he joined dozens of leaders and the UK’s new prime minister Keir Starmer, to discuss how they could help support Ukraine in its war with Russia.
