Ukraine war: Kyiv denies Russia’s claims it occupies Bakhmut – BBC News

Ukraine has disputed claims by Russia that it has taken full control of the city of Bakhmut.

Russia has lost thousands of men in its assault on Bakhmut, in the east of Ukraine, in the longest battle of the war so far.

Ukraine’s President Zelensky returned home from a meeting of G7 leaders in Japan in which he secured further promises of financial and military support.

During the visit he drew several parallels between Hiroshima and Ukraine, saying pictures of the Japanese city in ruins after bombing reminded him of present-day Bakhmut.

The Ukrainian city of Dnipro has also been targeted by Russian missiles, according to Ukrainian armed forces.
