Uganda approves tough new anti-gay law – BBC News

A new anti-gay law, one of the harshest laws of its kind in the world, has been singed into law in Uganda.

President Yoweri Museveni signed the Anti-Homosexuality Bill into law after parliament watered it down.

The new law calls for life in prison for those who are convicted under the act and in some circumstances, people could face the death penalty.

The law has received international condemnation, with the US President Joe Biden calling Uganda’s new law "shameful" and a "tragic violation of universal human rights".
