Ukrainian tennis player Sergiy Stakhovsky has described the “no-win scenario” of leaving his family to return to his home country to fight against the Russian invasion.
The 36-year-old, who retired from tennis after the Australian Open in January, has returned to be alongside reserves in Kyiv.
He said the “hardest part” was leaving his family back in Hungary.
“I am not sure I will forgive myself. It was a no-win scenario for me, if I stayed I would not forgive myself, and now I cannot forgive myself even when I am here.”
“It will not end well most likely, but we are prepared for it,” he said.
