Taiwan to go to polls in presidential election that could test China relations | BBC News


People in Taiwan will go to the polls for parliamentary and presidential elections on Saturday.

The results are expected to have major implications for the island’s relationship with China.

Under President Xi Jinping, China has vowed to bring Taiwan under its rule – and hasn’t precluded the use of force to achieve its goal.

Taiwan has accused China of intimidating its citizens to influence Saturday’s election.
