Russian President Putin’s Kremlin targets LGBT community in new crackdown – BBC News

A crackdown against the LGBT+ community in Russia has intensified after a new law was passed by the Russian Parliament.

The bill, which passed in December, places restrictions on almost any mention of LGBT people or culture.

Vladimir Putin has said that Russia is not only fighting Ukraine on the battlefield, but also "Western" values.

During a speech in the Kremlin to mark the illegal annexation of four Ukrainian regions, the president lashed out at the West and LGBT rights, calling them "pure Satanism".
