Police ask Boris Johnson to answer written questions about lockdown parties – BBC News

Boris Johnson has been sent a formal questionnaire by Scotland Yard over allegations that lockdown parties in breach of the law took place in Downing Street.

It suggests that Metropolitan Police officers are considering evidence that the Prime Minister may have personally breached the rules he imposed at the height of the UK’s Covid pandemic.

About 50 people have been sent the formal questions, asking them to account for their presence at 12 events that are under investigation.

Boris Johnson has insisted he broke no rules, but has apologised for attending a “bring your own booze” gathering in the Downing Street garden in May 2020, organised by his principal private secretary.

Clive Myrie presents BBC News at Ten reporting by political correspondent Ione Wells.
