One of Russia’s allies, the Belarusian leader, Alexander Lukashenko, said claims that North Korea had sent troops to fight alongside Russia in Ukraine were “rubbish”.
Lukashenko told the BBC’s Russia Editor, Steve Rosenberg, that involving North Koreans on the front lines would be a step towards escalating the conflict.
Belarus has played a part in Russia’s war. In February 2022 Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine was launched, partly, from Belarusian territory.
