A 7.19m (23ft) model of the Eiffel Tower built out of matches has been given a world record, after the Guinness World Records changed their minds.
Initially, French model-enthusiast Richard Plaud’s efforts appeared to be in vein, as it was determined the matches he had used were not "commercially available".
But, after filing an appeal, the authorities reversed their decision, admitting that the original ruling was “too heavy handed”, saving Mr Plaud from having wasted eight years, 706,900 matches and 23kg of glue.
