The Armenians of Jerusalem have only just held their annual Christmas celebration on 19 January.
But this year, it’s been overshadowed by the war in Gaza and a new threat to the survival of the community from a contested real estate deal. This deal could see them lose 25% of their land in their ancient quarter of the Old City.
Armenians date their presence in the holy city back to the 4th Century. Many of the 2,000-strong community live inside the large, cobble-stoned compound of St James Convent.
