Japan earthquake: cameras reveal panic as tremors strike | BBC News

A major search and rescue operation is underway in Japan after a powerful earthquake struck parts of the country.

More than 100 tremors caused serious damage and fears of a tsunami. Tens of thousands of people were evacuated from high risk areas.

The Prime Minister said rescue efforts were proving extremely difficult due to damage to roads and infrastructure in Ishikawa prefecture.

Several people were confirmed to have died with fears that other people are buried alive under rubble.

Clive Myrie presents BBC News at Ten reporting from Japan by Suranjana Tewari.
