Nine more were killed today during an Israeli military raid in the occupied West Bank. The Palestinian presidency is describing it as a "massacre".
The Israel Defense Forces said its troops entered the city of Jenin to arrest a “terror squad" which was planning violent attacks.
Last year also saw a surge in Palestinian armed attacks against Israelis. The US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will head to the Middle East where he’s due to meet Israeli and Palestinian leaders after many months of this intensifying violence and the recent election of the most right-wing, nationalist coalition in Israel’s history.
The BBC’s Middle East correspondent Tom Bateman reports for Newsnight.
