“Enjoy summer safely” says PM as pubs and restaurants open in England – BBC News

Boris Johnson has urged the public to “enjoy summer safely,” as the coronavirus lockdown is eased for England’s hospitality sector.

Pubs and restaurants as well as hairdressers are among the businesses that are reopening for the first time in months. But speaking at the Downing Street news conference, the Prime Minister warned “we aren’t out of the woods yet”.

Boris Johnson said he “wouldn’t hesitate” to reverse the relaxation of lockdown measures, if the rate of infections began to climb. England’s Chief Medical Officer, Professor Chris Whitty, said the virus “is a long way from gone”.

He warned that easing the lockdown “was not a risk free step” and he urged the public to continue to follow social-distancing rules. In Northern Ireland, pubs, restaurants and hotels have been welcoming back customers, the first of the home nations in the UK to do so, after being closed for months.

Drinks can be served at tables indoors but only with food. Tourist attractions like museums and galleries, are also re-opening.
