How will nightclubs cope with reopening? – BBC Newsnight

Government guidance urging nightclubs to make their customers show Covid passports has been branded unfair and unworkable by those running them. As coronavirus restrictions ease around the UK, how can nightclubs open safely? Please subscribe HERE http://bit.ly/1rbfUog

The UK has recorded more than 50,000 new daily coronavirus cases – the highest number since mid-January. On Monday, most Covid rules end in England and Scotland.

The government has advised nightclubs and other event organisers to ask for proof that revellers have had two jabs or tested negative for Covid.

Health Secretary Sajid Javid this week encouraged event organisers to require attendees to show so-called vaccine passports. They are available through the NHS app and also show if a person has natural immunity after contracting the disease. But the guidance is not mandatory. Therefore organisers would not be legally required to follow it.

But operators said not making the move mandatory was passing the buck. And the Night Time Industries Association called it "disingenuous and unclear", questioning how voluntary it really was.
