How Indians crack one of the world’s toughest exams – BBC News


India’s Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exams, sat by young men and women who want to join the country’s vast civil service, are seen as one of the toughest tests in the world.

A million candidates apply to appear in the gruelling three-stage exam every year, with less than 1% making it to the second stage.

While preparing for the UPSC, Gamini Singla stayed away from friends, did not go on vacations and avoided family meetings and celebrations for nearly three years.
