Personal data can be protected online in a new way, according to BBC researchers who have collaborated on data pods for streaming.
A trial of BBC Together’s watch party, which allows people to stream content at the same time together, crucially allows users to supervise how their data is used.
As users log in, the software creates a data pod for each person and shows what data has been collected.
BBC research and development has worked with firm Inrupt to create the data pods.
The technology was first created by web inventor Sir Tim Berners-Lee, who said it would give people more control over their data.
