How can robot-assisted surgery teach trainee doctors? – BBC News

Surgeons using robot technology to conduct operations is being streamed to help trainee doctors follow live.

At London’s St Thomas’ hospital, more than 2,000 surgeries have been conducted using a cloud-based platform developed by a company called Proximie.

A live feed comes from an operating room where a patient is undergoing robot-assisted surgery, showing viewers four cameras displaying different parts of the operation.

“Being able to watch things either in my own time or remotely is really helpful, it helps to give a bit more one-to-one interaction with the consultant,” said Dr Roisin Johnson, a surgical trainee at hospital in London.
