Horrific scenes following an explosion at a hospital in Gaza City continued the day after the blast, with terrible suffering and grief as relatives mourned the dead and the search continued for the remains of Palestinian victims.
Health officials in Gaza said almost 500 people were killed in the explosion at the Al-Ahli hospital in Gaza City. They claim an Israeli airstrike was responsible.
However on a visit to Tel Aviv, US President Joe Biden said the deadly blast appears to have been caused by a rocket fired by Palestinian militants, backing Israel’s account of the incident.
Israel’s military said the explosion was caused by a failed Palestinian rocket, which was intended to strike Israeli territory.
The tragedy has inflamed tensions and sparked protests across the region.
Clive Myrie presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Jeremy Bowen and Rushdi Abualouf reporting from the scene of the explosion.
