The people who run Sudan Animal Rescue Centre on the outskirts of Khartoum say they may be forced to put the animals down unless the situation there changes.
A 72-hour ceasefire between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces appears to be holding, although there have been reports of new gunfire and shelling.
There are more than 200 animals at the centre, which is close to a military base and has had its supplies of water and electricity cut off.
Osman Salih, from the centre, said some of the smaller animals had broken free after the shelling, and a bomb had fallen near the lions’ enclosure which created an opening.
