Children in Gaza face starvation as Israeli offensive continues | BBC News

Children in Gaza are facing severe hunger, disease and malnutrition due to shortages of food and drinking water.

The United Nations is warning that 2.3 million people in Gaza are on “the brink of famine”. It says Israel’s military offensive and blockade of Gaza is leading to an “explosion” of children dying from hunger and disease.

Israel cut supplies of food, water and fuel into Gaza at the start of the war. Since then it has allowed some aid into the territory but the UN and charities say it’s not nearly enough. They warn that continuing fighting and lack of civil order makes it impossible to distribute humanitarian supplies effectively..

The UN’s humanitarian coordination agency, Ocha, says more than half the aid missions to the north of Gaza are being denied access by Israeli forces.
