French election rivals Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen are facing a reputation problem, ahead of the nation’s decisive presidential vote.
Colourful slurs are scrawled everywhere on posters of the candidates: "fascist" or "dirty liberal"; "racist" v "elitist" on billboards for Marine Le Pen and Emmanuel Macron.
The candidates are proposing two very different futures for France, at home and abroad.
Voters will choose on Sunday between Ms Le Pen, the head of Rassemblement National (National Rally), and incumbent Emmanuel Macron, who leads centrist movement La République En Marche (Republic on the move).
The BBC’s Europe editor Katya Adler reports.
