Bola Tinubu wins Nigeria’s presidential election, says electoral commission – BBC News

Ruling party candidate Bola Tinubu has been declared the winner of Nigeria’s disputed presidential election.

Results from Nigeria’s electoral commission show that the 70-year-old politician got 37% of the vote. Rivals had earlier dismissed the poll as a sham, demanding a rerun.

Main rival Atiku Abubakar polled 29%, and Labour’s Peter Obi 25%.

Mr Tinubu is one of Nigeria’s richest politicians, and while he was defeated in his home city Lagos, he won most other states in his home region of the south-west.
