Barbara Blake-Hannah became Britain’s first black female TV reporter back in 1968.
She had come to the UK in search of new opportunities in the 1960s.
But she faced racism and her contract with Thames television came to an end after just nine months, following complaints from viewers about having a black person on their screens.
She has been talking to the BBC on the anniversary of her TV debut.
