Alexei Navalny's wife 'doesn't know whether to believe the news' of husband's death | BBC News

Yulia Navalnaya, wife of Alexei Navalny, has said she doesn’t know whether the "horrible news" of her husband’s death is true.

Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, she said the news of her husband’s death so far only came from state sources.

Navalny, who was Russia’s most significant opposition leader for the past decade, has died in an Arctic Circle jail, the prison service has said.

President Vladimir Putin’s loudest critic, he was serving 19 years on extremism charges that were widely seen as politically motivated.

Putin’s spokesman said Russian’s penitentiary service was looking into Navalny’s death.
