Paris is set to host the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games, with athletes and dignitaries set to be carried down the River Seine on a flotilla.
But, with the eyes of the world watching, a mammoth security operation has been put in place, involving tens of thousands of police.
In the hours before the ceremony, French rail company SNCF has said its high-speed network has been targeted by "malicious acts" aimed at paralysing the system.
More than 300,000 spectators are expected in the heart of Paris for the event, which will see more than 10,000 athletes carried past some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, including Notre-Dame cathedral and the Eiffel Tower – before reaching the Trocadéro.
