The UK government has ended talks on a free trade deal with Canada, after Ottawa declined to continue low-tariff access to its markets for some British goods including cheese and luxury cars.
The two countries have been negotiating for almost two years as the UK sought a post-Brexit free trade agreement with Canada.
Canada’s trade minister said its decision not to extend existing low-cost access to its markets was due to the “unwillingness” of the UK to offer something in return.
One sticking point was the British refusal to accept Canadian meat treated with hormones that are banned in the UK.
