Tens of thousands of women in Iceland – including the prime minister – have gone on strike in protest at the gender pay gap and gender-based violence.
Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir is one of many women taking part in the "kvennafrí", or women’s day off, which marks the first full-day women’s strike in the nation since 1975.
Women and non-binary people have been urged to refuse paid and unpaid work, including household chores, and fields in which women form the majority of workers, such as healthcare and education, have been especially affected.
